CARBON FENDER HOOKS
The metal fender hook has been an industry staple for the last 40 years. This workhorse has graced the cap rails of countless yachts and has been thrown in the forepeak locker with the rest of the mooring gear without much thought. With carbon, though, a few construction parameters can be offered that steel simply cannot supply. Weight is significantly reduced, and the color options become unlimited. An exotic paint blend can be matched perfectly, or the clear-coated weave can create a part that becomes a feature, not just a utilitarian piece of hardware. Another benefit to carbon is its conformability. Precision matching to three axis curves is achievable while the greatest machinist would be left scratching his head. Durability might be a question, but with crew removable hardware and the unmatched corrosion resistance of carbon polishing or recoating becomes a short crew project rather than a trip back to the factory for a costly recover. Even as the soft lamb’s wool wears as it inevitably does, a layer of EVA foam ensures no damage will occur to the yachts surfaces.
